Personality:

Jeff is selfish. He struggles to care about others and put their needs in front of his own. The entire first episode of Community is Jeff tricking six people into thinking he's a Spanish Teacher so he can sleep with one of them. Over time he's learned the little voice in his head that tells him he's doing something wrong is worth listening to. Sometimes.

He cares a lot about his appearance and physical health. It's very important that he's the most attractive guy in the room, and if he isn't, he will insult and undercut whoever is. He keeps his skincare products locked in a safe under his sink. He eats a lot of egg whites to keep his body in the perfect condition. Despite this, his blood pressure is slightly high, which caused him to break down and binge eat when he found out all the (gross) egg whites were for nothing.

Jeff doesn't like to show emotion. When his parents got divorced, he admired the lawyer who got to walk away feeling nothing at all, which led him to become a lawyer himself. He thinks displays of emotion make him look weak, but really, he's just worried he is a weak person. He steers away from topics like fathers and foosball so nobody asks him anything that could make him cry. If he can't avoid the topic, he'll try his best to pretend he doesn't care at all. If he does break down, he's shocked if anyone cares enough to comfort him.

If someone wrongs him, he will try to get them back. He doesn't let things go easily. Often, he takes the revenge a lot further than whatever originally happened, and doesn't realize until it's pointed out to him, at which point he profusely apologizes. He always finds a way to make it up to the wronged party.

Jeff can talk his way into, out of, and through most situations. He used this skill to persuade his law firm that an online degree from a university in Columbia was a law degree from Columbia University. He once convinced an arson victim he liked his house better burnt down. In canon, he made his former study group realize they wanted to sue the school, not save it. Then, he made them realize they actually wanted to save it again. In his words – "I show people the right truth."

He's insecure about the fact that, since he has the ability to convince most people of most things by just talking, he's never had to try. The most he's done is a few dioramas, which he mostly let his assignment partners do for him. He's worried that if he ever did have to work hard at something, he couldn't handle it.

He grew up without a father, and thinks of himself as a self-made man. Jeff tries not to rely on other people for longer than he has to, i.e. they give him the thing he wants from them. Even as he learns to make genuine friendships, he's always aware he could move on at any time. He's learned it's better to be the one that leaves.
